Greenheart of the Forest - Bethloria Book 2 by Lizbeth Klein
Published by Wombat Books
Greenheart of the Forest is Book 2 of the Bethloria series by Lizbeth Klein (Book 1 was the award–winning Firelight of Heaven). Book 2 takes the reader on another fast moving and engrossing journey of fantasy and adventure in the lives of brothers Robbie and Dougray and their companion Belle.
Lizbeth Klein’s beautiful writing style creates vivid imagery so the reader can “see” the adventure unfold. The story is brought to life by the delightful depictions of the unusual creatures and characters (friends and foes); the creative details of the dangers and challenges as they are presented and overcome; and the descriptions of the landscapes on which the journey takes place.
Excerpt from page 17:
Shadows, blacker than the night, flashed before Dougray’s eyes. The sense of overwhelming doom made his knees shake. Looking up, he saw a dish of leaves extended toward him like cupped hands. He reached up and dropped the stoles into it. Three coloured lights winked at him as the branches swayed. The Guardian’s sigh sounded like the wind whistling in his ears. She whispered a riddle, soft and faint.
Danger has drawn your company here,
And in the land ahead there will be more to fear.
Stay true to the call and your feet will not stray,
Help shall locate you; it will not delay.
True friends are a boon, so treat them well,
They will guide your feet and danger quell.
Firelight of Heaven lay hid ‘neath the ground,
Greenheart of the Forest now waits to be found.
The book is suitable for young teens who are good readers through to adults who love fantasy and adventure. For young readers who are sensitive to gore there are some parts which are a little gruesome as wolves are seen to threaten, chase and attack at various times in the story. However, in general the book covers themes of brotherhood, bravery, alliances and the battles of good over evil.
If you are lucky enough to get your hands on Book 2, but have not read Book 1 (like me), there’s no concern as Book 2 can stand alone as a strong story of its own. There are only minimal references to Book 1 and the prologue sets the scene for the wonderful story to begin.
