Red Yellow Blue And a Dash of White, too! by C. G. Esperanza
Published by Sky Pony Press
The is the story of a girl who paints an elephant blue, with a splash of red and yellow and a dash of white, too. Elebooyah is the elephant’s name and we watch her come alive and join the girl as the colours mix and the pages come alive.
This is a busy picture book and the readers learn how colours mix together and make new colours. It is fun and a great read aloud for kids. Many kids will want to paint or colour in after reading this. Have the art kit ready!
The colours are bold and bright in this book and the pictures almost have a childlike feel to them with a touch of street art too. The girl’s hair is big and almost messy and it feels like she almost leaps from page to page.
The words used also add to the fun and mayhem of the story. Words such as Swish, Splatter, Sploosh, Swoosh, Swash and Splash add noise. When the colour is written it is painted in its colour and is shaped in various sizes. The end papers have been included as part of the story and show that it is fun to paint on every space that we can.
This is a great book to share with any budding young artist as it shows that them that colour is fun, messy is fun, loud is fun but most of all sharing with another is fun.
