Each month, along with a featured author we also feature one of our emerging authors. This month we thought we would do something a little different – Creative Kids Tales – A Year in Review.
A year to an author can be over in a blink or if waiting to hear from publishers can be agonisingly long. A lot has happened with Creative Kids Tales this year and we thought we would summarise it here for you.
In 2012 we partnered with Love2Read to help promote the National Year of Reading. In 2013 they again invited us to partner with them and promote The Reading Hour. We are extremely humbled to be involved with such a great organisation that promotes reading in Australia. Their campaigns have introduced many children to Australian children’s authors.
Again we have celebrated with a plethora of talented featured authors this year. We kicked off 2013 with Bill Condon, Paul Collins, Anna Branford, Aleesah Darlinson, DC Green, Belinda Murrell, Jacqueline Harvey, Sally Rippin, Sandy Fussell, Kate Forsyth and finishing off the year with the multi award winning, Paul Jennings. We have lots more wonderful authors to bring you next year.
Our list of emerging authors has never been stronger. The quality of up and coming new authors is astounding. Their submissions are creative and passionate and are sure to engage you from the first sentence. We believe publishers have a lot to be excited about.
This year, due to increasing costs we found it necessary to impose a membership fee to new and existing members. Most supported the change and we are delighted with the strong list of emerging authors that form part of our Creative Kids Tales family. At only $10 a year for a single profile or $15 for both emerging author and illustrator promoting your work has never been more affordable and convenient.
We also receive books directly from authors. It’s like Christmas every day!
Along with my fellow reviewers, Angela Kirin, Patricia Simmons, Jackie Randall, Bernadette Smallwood, Nerida Wayland, Stella Tarakson and Kathy Creamer we thank you for allowing us to introduce these wonderful new books to you. This month we added ‘Meet our book reviewers’ page. Now you can read all about your favourite reviewers.
Again we did our best to keep you up to date with the various writing competitions around Australia.
Our first Emerging Children’s Author of the Year competition was a huge hit. The partnership with Ford Street Publishing saw the winner receive a bumper prize pack of books and cash to the value of $300.
We have watched our stats boom this year, our best month being November with over 125,000 hits. On average we receive 80,000+ per month.
This year we added a ‘Social Media‘ page to our tips pages. Surprisingly this has been our most popular (tips) page.
Children’s Publishers Australia
This page is our most popular and receives the most hits per month. It is a comprehensive listing of children’s publishers in Australia together with links to their website. You can find this page here.
The Author’s Shelf
The next progression for Creative Kids Tales saw us launch The Author’s Shelf in September. Now if you would have said at the beginning of the year I would be hosting my own radio show by the end of the year I would have recommended you lie down or see a doctor.
This year we were invited to lots of book launches, we attended as many as we could. We also attended different literary events both in NSW and interstate.
We hope you have enjoyed being a part of the Creative Kids Tales family and we look forward to bringing you even more next year.
What can you expect next year? More interviews, more authors, more competitions, new tips, a new interactive website and another new initiative. We also have a lots of talented authors lined up to talk with us next year on The Author’s Shelf including the new Australian Children’s Laureate, Jackie French.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support this year and we look forward to bringing you more exciting opportunities from both Creative Kids Tales and The Author’s Shelf in 2014.
Take care and happy writing!
