Helen is an emerging author of middle-grade children’s books and children’s picture books. In 2019, her picture book story was shortlisted in the NSW Writers’ Unleashed Picture Book Writing Competition, and in 2020 her middle-grade story was shortlisted in Buzzwords Magazine Short Story Competition.
Helen has attended numerous courses at the Australian Writers’ Centre in Sydney. She continues to invest in her writing career by attending writers’ festivals, workshops and obtaining manuscript assessments, including assessments with some of Australia’s top publishers. She is a member of Creative Kids Tales (CKT) On-line Critique Group, Society of Children’s Book Writers, Illustrators (SCWBI) and subscribes to Buzzwords Magazine.
Her stories often include humour, empathy, inclusiveness, diversity, adversity, and friendship. She loves creating quirky, unforgettable characters and action-packed, original stories. Helen believes that books can help kids think in new ways and grow emotionally and psychologically. Books can make lonely kids feel less lonely, which is another reason Helen is passionate about writing for kids.
Surrounded by the beautiful Blue Mountains in New South Wales, Helen finds inspiration everywhere for her stories. She shares her life with one husband, two nosey terriers, and the Copperfield rat family who live under her house and vanish at will. Spooky!
