I have always loved to read. I remember reading Enid Blyton books to my sister at bedtime. I enjoy reading to my granddaughters, aged 3 and 5. I also like to read mysteries, memoirs and biographies. Of late I’ve read many books by writers for writers.
I began teaching Maths in secondary schools. I moved into Special Ed, teaching literacy and numeracy to students with learning difficulties at TAFE and secondary schools. Through this I discovered that many students with learning difficulties are from households with serious issues of child abuse, alcohol and drug use. I then studied student welfare to obtain my Masters in Education and moved into chaplaincy in a local primary school. Again, I saw evidence of abuse in the home–physical, verbal and emotional. Often sibling rivalry was a result of this. Hence my first children’s picture book Scruffy and Silk.
I also intermittently work on my memoirs. I have written many church songs, recorded two CDs and been travelling around Victoria as a singer and speaker since 2008.
