Kelly Hibbert is an Adelaide-based author and educator with a passion for words and language. Her story, Sebastian and the Special Stack of Stories, illustrated by Sue DeGennaro and published by HarperCollins Children’s Books in 2018 was also distributed by Harper360 into the North American markets in 2021.

Her debut picture book, Fancy Pants, illustrated by Amanda Graham and published by Little Book Press in 2016, was distributed in packs provided by the Little Big Book Club to over 42 000 preschool children across South Australia. Fancy Pants was shortlisted in the Speech Pathology Book of the Year awards in 2017 and selected by public vote to be the next sculpture installed at the Storybook Walk in Thalassa Park in 2022.

Kelly is a member of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators), serving on the committee for the past 7 years. She coordinated the SA chapter and was Assistant Regional Advisor for Australia East/New Zealand from 2017-2021. Kelly speaks in schools and has recently presented a 3-day workshop with Mandy Foot to primary students. She has also presented writing workshops for adults at the Salisbury Writers’ Festival and the inaugural WordFest event hosted by the City of Marion. Kelly is an active member in an online SCBWI critique group with members from around the world, CBCSA member and the founder of a local group, The Writers’ Hub, formed in 2014.

As a part time relief teacher, Kelly keenly read books and talks about writing with students at many local preschools and primary schools. Much of her inspiration comes from the extraordinary children she meets or the everyday events which happen in the home she shares in Adelaide with husband, Steve, and two boys. When Kelly is not writing or teaching, you may find her reading, walking her much-loved golden retriever, Tully, or baking up a storm.
